Pen & Ink

These next few images are some of the first life studies I've done using a Speedball pen and mid-toned ink (a little bit of brushwork on some too). I feel happy with the results. I like how I can see myself trying different techniques within the same medium. I'll definitely keep experimenting with it.

All 4 of these drawings were done with the same tiny ball point pen.

Gesture

This top image is a one min. gesture pose. Quite fun!
These bottom two are slightly more developed. The first is a few 2 min. poses probably
and the last one is a 5 min. pose.

Life Drawing

I'm really like using color pastels now. I think it's a medium I'm getting used to, and I'm starting to see the potential. I'm really enjoying using sanguine as the main shadow color and then adding other colors on top, either on the lighter or darker end of things to give the drawing more depth. These next few drawings are examples of that.

All of these life drawings are done in blue pastel with some highlights in pink and white pastel.

Project Process

The following four images show the process of coming to a final illustration for one project.
The assignment was to illustrate the idiom "cat got your tongue." Which I did in a particularly gruesome way. The first image is the values sketch. The second is the first color rough I did which was rejected for being too warm. The third image is an exploration of the image using only cool colors, and that was rejected because of the green color of the bed. The fourth and final image is an entirely blue hued version, which was pretty much accepted except some folks thought the blue of the bed was too warm. Anyway, enjoy!
